There is a very good chance that you attend an “evangelical” church. The term evangelical finds its heritage in the Protestant Reformation, where it was used interchangeably at times with the word Protestant. The word evangelical conveyed that the Reformers, in contrast to Rome, were defending and recovering the euangelium (“gospel”).
Has the concept of Sola Scriptura deviated away from the notion that was embraced by men like Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox? Did they envision a concept that did not consider the scriptures in context of Christian historical teachings? Is the Bible open for any and all individualistic determinations about doctrine and are all such ideas valid?
