A few years after 1820 when Joseph Smith later claimed to have had The First Vision, he then said that he was visited by an angel who identified himself as Moroni and who told him of an ancient record inscribed on Golden Plates.

The Angel Moroni supposedly showed Joseph Smith the location of golden plates, upon which were written the text of the Book of Mormon. Smith claimed it was written in “Reformed Egyptian,” a non-existant language.
