Deception by Design:
An Introduction to Mormonism

The presence of the Mormon Church in the world today demands a clear evangelical witness to the historic teachings of the Christian Church. If, as they claim, the church became apostate after the death of the twelve apostles of the New Testament and the true gospel has been restored through Joseph Smith to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then mankind needs to heed their doctrine.

But, if they are, as one authority describes them, one of the most “… unorthodox theological systems that [was] introduced in the New York hinterland between 1800 and 1850,” then we need to confront them with the true gospel of the Bible.

Exhibiting the Prophet of Mormonism

“Mormonism … must stand or fall on the story of Joseph Smith. He was either a Prophet of God, divinely called, properly appointed and commissioned, or he is one of the biggest frauds this world has ever seen. There is no middle ground. If Joseph was a deceiver, who willingly attempted to mislead the people, then he should be exposed: his claims should be refuted, and his doctrines shown to be false.”

Exploring the Past of Mormons

“No man knows my history. I cannot tell it; I shall never undertake it. I don’t blame anyone for not believing my history if I had not experienced what I have, I could not believe it myself.”

More than 200 different groups have splintered off from the original church that was founded in 1830 by Joseph Smith. Most soon died out, some merged with other splinters and a few still exist, most notable is the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (now known as the Community of Christ). This is their Temple in Independence, Missouri.

Exposing the Problems of Mormonism

“Yet of all churches in the world only this one has not found it necessary to readjust any part of its doctrine in the last hundred years.”

Establishing the Presentation to Mormons

“If after a rigid examination, it be found an imposition, it should be extensively published to the world as such: the evidences and arguments on which the imposture was detected should be clearly and logically stated that those who continue to publish the delusion may be exposed and silenced by evidences adduced from Scripture and reason.”

Apostle Orson Pratt
